Tired of paying for cheesy stock photos? Or perhaps you just go on google images and search images to use. You may get away with this, but it is illegal to use images without the correct copyright permissions. Luckily there plenty of website with high quality stock images that licensed under the Creative Commons Zero (CCO) license. This means the pictures are completely free to use for any legal purpose. This means they can be used for both personal and commercial use. These images can be used on a website, blog, social media posts, and even printed items like books and posters all without the need to ask for permission or having links to the source.

1. Pexels is usually the first place I look for free stock photos. They currently have over 30,000 high resolution photos and every month they add at least 3,000 more. All images are licensed under CCO, high quality and searchable.


2. Pixabay is another website I visitor regularly, all images are released free of copyrights under creative commons CCO. You can download, modify, distribute and use them royalty free for anything you like, even commercially. As a bonus they also have vector graphics and videos.

Firstly, search for images like usually, and then click on Settings and Advanced Settings from the dropdown. Find usage rights and from the dropdown list select ‘free to use or share, even commercially’. Now you will be shown images that you can use for personal or commercial use. To be safe visit the page of the image to check the usage rights, some may require attribution.
